Brandon Jacobs is hoping to add some punch to the Niners run game, and as the team announced the deal Friday, Jacobs threw a number of compliments at the team.

“The 49ers are a great organization,” Jacobs said on Friday. “I’ve played against the 49ers year in, year out, and it’s always a great challenge. It’s a great football team, great ownership and a team that’s on its way up to a championship.

“It’s a good football team and really close. And I felt wanted. I felt they really wanted me around and I was excited about it.”

Jacobs is fourth in Giants’ history with 4,849 rushing yards and is the team’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns with 56. Jacobs twice topped 1,000 yards rushing (2007, 2008) his 15 rushing touchdowns in 2008 was the second-highest single-season total in team history.

Jacobs added 461 yards and four rushing touchdowns in 10 post-season games, including 23 carries for 79 yards in two Super Bowl wins over the Patriots.

Released by the Giants after failing to agree to a restructured contract, Jacobs agreed to terms with the 49ers on March 28. Jacobs acknowledged on Friday that he grew up rooting for the team.

“When I chose them as my team, I barely knew anything about football,” Jacobs said. “I was only 8 years old and only liked their uniforms. That’s what drew me to the 49ers. And I stuck with them. I even found myself cheering for them on like Sunday nights when we weren’t playing against them, seven years deep into the NFL. I was a really big fan.”
